The City of Arlington is moving closer to a deal with the Texas Rangers new ballpark. The city council is debating on holding a special election November 8 to allow voters to decide on the construction of a new ballpark.

The Rangers home opened in 1994, it was built for about $190 million, but at 22-years-old, Globe Life Park will soon be retired. The project is estimated to cost around $1 billion.

The plans for the ballpark include a retractable roof and climate control.

The deal with Arlington is the team will pay for half the cost and taxpayers will pick up the remaining balance.

The city believes the economic impact that a new complex could generate $2.53 billion over the next 38 years.

There would also be a new $200 million entertainment district called Texas Live, right between the Rangers and Cowboys stadiums. The project would open somewhere around 2021.
